The machined steel recoil plug features a mil-spec flange on its side, enabling the recoil spring to be wound into the plug before placing it into the slide. By doing so, the plug is prevented from flying off the spring during field stripping, avoiding injury to the operator or the loss of the plug. The plug is precision-turned to fit full-size Government model pistols, and has flat, diamond-pattern knurling on the front. Losing the plug renders the gun inoperable, so it's recommended to keep one or two in your range box or field maintenance kit as backup.
