With the introduction of the T3x, Tikka started shipping the rifles with a metal injection molded mystery metal shroud.  Not only is it significantly heavier than the previous generation’s plastic shroud, but the accuracy of the part suffered due to the production process.

The Mountain Tactical Company Tikka bolt shroud’s outside diameter was matched to the inside diameter of the bolt race creating perfect alignment of the bolt to enhance concentricity of the cartridge to the chamber.  In essence, the benefit is the same as having a three lug bolt to insure alignment to the axis of the bore.
