RCBS Steel Neck Bushings are designed to allow the reloader to choose the ideal amount of tension on the bullet when using RCBS Gold Medal Match sizing dies. They are also self-centering to ensure proper alignment with the case neck. It is recommended to use high-end brass that has consistent neck thicknesses for optimum results.
The bushings are supplied "in-the-white," meaning they are bare steel and require traditional case lubrication. These Steel Neck Bushings are intended for use exclusively with RCBS Gold Medal sizing dies. Using a Steel Neck Bushing that fits tightly helps to minimize work hardening of the case neck brass. This prolongs the life of the case while also increasing accuracy.
RCBS recommends using neck bushings one to two sizes above and below the intended diameter to achieve desirable neck tension (see note below). These components are a small yet vital part of producing extremely consistent-shooting ammo using Gold Medal Match sizing dies.
Brownells Gun Tech™ Tip: There are two ways to choose the appropriate steel neck bushings. The first method involves measuring the outside neck diameter of the loaded cartridge and subtracting between .002" and .003". This allows for approximately .001" of brass to spring back for correct neck tension. The second method requires measuring the neck wall thickness of the case, multiplying it by two, adding the diameter of the bullet, and subtracting between .002" and .003".
