Replace Dust Cover Rod, C-clip, and Torsion Spring for AR Style Rifles
Replacing your dust cover rod, c-clip, and torsion spring is an easy process, but it's important to be cautious to avoid losing any small parts and to ensure the correct reassembly. To install your new cover, please follow the instructions below:
1. Push the hinge pin forward until you can see the "c" clip, making sure the open end is facing towards you.
2. Using small punches or a screwdriver, gently push on each end of the clip until it comes off. Be careful not to use too much force to avoid damaging the clip.
3. The clip should come out easily without requiring any force. You can use a magnetic pickup or tweezers to remove it, or carefully tilt the receiver until the clip falls into your hand. Be cautious as the c-clip is small and can easily go missing.
4. Take note of the cover spring's position. If you don't have a diagram, take a picture so you can assemble it back correctly later.
5. Slide the hinge pin rearward while keeping your hand on the cover spring to prevent it from getting lost.
6. Continue pushing the rod slowly backward until it is clear of the receiver. Be careful not to scratch the upper receiver.
7. To install the cover, position the hinge pin spring with the short leg facing backward towards the receiver and pointing upwards towards the ejection port.
8. Push the hinge pin into the spring slightly.
9. Lift the front part of the spring away from the receiver and press the long leg down until it's resting against the ejection port cover. Slide the hinge pin in completely.
10. Align the hinge pin's small slot with the front wall of the hinge pin channel. Slide the clip against the pin using the wall and use a punch to push it into place. You should hear a clicking sound, signaling that it's engaged correctly.
