EGW is proud to offer a machined from solid steel thumb safety, which few other companies do. The reason for this new design is that cast and MIM thumb safeties on the market often fail, and EGW wanted to create a cleaner and more solid alternative. The steel used for this safety is heat treated and machined in the hardened condition to keep it as straight as possible, and it features serrations for better gripping capabilities. The paddles on both sides are also machined from solid blocks of heat treated steel.

This safety is designed using EGW's swiss screw machines, which have allowed them to manufacture the hammer pins, a shortened flat-headed .110 sear pin, and their Patent Pending sleeve. All of these components are made from heat-treated materials, and the ambi joint is machined flat instead of tapered, which can become loose over time. The sleeve joins each side of the safety inside the frame tangs, and the grip safety rides on the round sleeve without being influenced when the safety is operated. Moreover, the sleeve prevents the safety from expanding where the sides meet, makes each side longer for more secure operation and less flex, and has a t-slot on the right-hand side to prevent the safety from walking out. Thus, there is no need to modify your grip on the right side for the safety.

Please note that this thumb safety still needs fitting to function properly in your 1911, and it is not a drop-in part. Included in this package are the left and right side safety, .797" and .807" hammer pins, sear pin, and the safety sleeve.
