MDT’s ESS chassis features the reliable V-block bedding system for a solid base for the rifle action. The magazine well has been refined for easy insertion of the magazine, while reducing rattle and movement. The tab style magazine release has been upgraded to a semi-flush ambidextrous paddle that can easily be activated by both weak and strong hands. The recoil lug mortise has been designed to fit most aftermarket recoil lugs, while the trigger area will fit the majority of aftermarket triggers.
The front of the magazine well now includes a serrated barricade stop, and a polymer forend grip at the balance point adds comfort. The fore-grip area is wide and combined with an octagonal profiled forend tube that allows a flexible shooting position when using bags or improvised rests. For open grip lovers, thumb shelves on both sides of the chassis are available.
MDT’s ESS chassis specific buttstock interface has been incorporated in this model, unlike the traditional AR pattern interface. This allowed the pistol grip to be placed in optimum relation to the trigger. However, it still allows the shooter to choose any AR pattern pistol grip that suits their preference.
The ESS chassis comes with its own buttstock, similar to the Skeleton Rifle Stock. The entire attachment is fully adjustable, including lateral adjustment for the butt-pad and the cheek rest. Cheek rest height and butt-pad length-of-pull can be adjusted using thumb wheels. The total weight of the chassis system, including forend and buttstock, is between 4.4 to 4.8lbs (depending on the type of action used). The length of pull ranges from 13.4” to 14.4” (based on Remington 700).
Other notable features include an extra-large magazine well for quick mag insertion/removal, an ambidextrous and easily accessible magazine latch that can be operated with either the trigger finger or left hand, and the ability to accommodate up to 1.300” straight taper barrel contours. The angled front profile with hand grip provides minute vertical adjustments and adds comfort/protection during adverse weather conditions. The wide front profile of the chassis offers extra comfort/stability when resting on flat surfaces, and the stock height at comb and heel is 0.5” below bore centerline, with 1.0” of riser adjustability. The chassis accepts AICS pattern magazines for both short and long action and allows aftermarket lugs up to 0.375 thick and tapered. Non-beavertail AR pattern pistol grips are compatible. Beavertail grips will fit with minor trimming. The entire rig is CNC machined from aircraft-grade aluminum and finished with H-series Cerakote. The cheek-piece, fore-grip, and butt-pad are constructed using high-quality composites.
