RCBS Steel Neck Bushings are essential components for achieving precise bullet tension when using RCBS Gold Medal Match sizing dies. These interchangeable bushings enable reloaders to select the appropriate size for optimal performance. By using a perfectly fitted Steel Neck Bushing, the reloading process can significantly reduce the work hardening of the case neck brass and extend the life of the case while improving accuracy.
Moreover, the self-centering bushings ensure that the case neck aligns correctly, allowing the user to achieve consistent shooting results. For optimal performance, it is recommended that high-end brass with a consistent neck thickness be used in conjunction with the Steel Neck Bushings. Additionally, the bushings are available only in bare steel, which requires the traditional lubrication of the cases.
RCBS recommends having neck bushings that are one to two sizes above and below the desired target diameter (refer to the note below). Brownell's Gun Tech™ Tip suggests two methods to select the appropriate Steel Neck Bushings. The first method involves measuring the outside diameter of the loaded cartridge neck and subtracting between 0.002" to 0.003" to allow approximately 0.001" of brass to spring back for correct neck tension. The second method involves measuring the neck wall thickness of the case, multiplying it by two, adding the bullet diameter, and then subtracting between 0.002" to 0.003".
