They securely hold the scope against recoil. The four-screw cap allows you to align the reticle and tighten the left and right sides without the scope rotating. The rings have radiused edges and corners to prevent snagging while providing an attractive appearance. The large clamp-nut allows you to torque the rings to Weaver-type or Picatinny bases.
